Ian visited his son and daughter-in-law in New York for Thanksgiving last week. The weather was amazing for this time of year so they were able to do a lot of walks around the various neighbourhoods. Here Ian shares photos and opinions of some of the architrectural decoration in New York.

There are plenty of amazingly complex and well carved Brooklyn Brownstones but the examples I show here are beautifully simple.

Many of you know that I blather on about about good decoration not needing to be complex decoration and here we have good examples of that. The design and movement works well although there is little or no modeling - simple, well designed, fast and affordable and this can be achieved in wood or stone. If you want decoration but have a budget this is the way to go. No ornamentation is better than bad ornamentation.
